Not exactly a weathered tartan but it is quite brown. This is the 'Randonnée Bretonne' (Brittany Walking) tartan. It lacks the grey you find in weathered/reproduction tartans but it's lovely all the same. This is a 13oz machine sewn 8 yd pleated to sett and I love it as you can probably tell...

    Close up of the sett.

    Kilt in close up.

    The Kilt on (again)

There is another chap from round these here parts who has one too ('tis where I got my inspiration from to be honest).

I have a kilt of MacLean tartan weathered, which I quite like. Weathered dosn't automatically mean browns and greys and very earthy tones.

    Addendum to my earlier post:

One of my uncle's had a jacket made up in MacLean hunting tartan weathered. I have enough cloth to make a kilt up, if I choose. Some days I like it; other days I don't. It certainly is brown.

    and their Lochcarron analogs at

    Good luck in your search.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

You are quite right Sandy, I didn't mean to imply they were. The Bruce Weathered by Lochcarron is also a red based tartan and I would love a Kilt in that.

If you go to the Scottish Tartans Museum web site, the tartan in the background is Hunting Stewart weathered (specifically Lochcarron 16 oz strome range).

I have two kilts in weathered colors myself. One is the Armstrong tartan.

    The other is MacQuarrie.

Strome 16 in weathered Davidson. This is from the last bolt of the stuff woven by Lochcarron about thirty year ago. If anybody wants to share we might have it remade. It's a large sett and made up into what is probably my favourite kilt.

And a MacMillan Old Weathered (Lochcarron 16oz).. This was my first clan tartan kilt, and was created by Donna Willy of Pleasanton Ca.
