Well it's 3:30am here in California now. I was up at 1am to watch the entire Qualifying Heat. Now we're at the break. The Finals start at 4:30 here.

Our USA bands, LA Scots and Oran Mor, played well... but so did the other bands. It's very difficult to get through to the finals.

Shotts sounded very solid and they'll have no trouble getting through.

An aside about Highland Dress, I note that not a single band in the Qualifiers wore white hose!

All black, navy, charcoal, except for Cullybackey in Lovat Blue. Let the White Hose Era be over!

Yes none of the bands in the Qualifying Heat wore white hose, but Fife Constabulary and Boghall & Bathgate (who prequalified) wore them in the Finals.

Boghall & Bathgate is consistently one of the smartest bands. I love their tartan and everything about their kit.

Other kilt-related asides: around 2/3 of the Grade One bands have kilts pleated to the stripe.

With band's bagcovers and cords, it's odd how several bands wear navy covers and black cords, or visa versa. Another oddity is Scottish Power wearing Royal Stewart tartan cords, though their kilts don't have those colours at all.

I thought the Lovat Blue worn by Cullybackey were the best of all.
