I'm short at 5'7" and anything off the rack is too long for me. Worn where I want to is uncomfortable in the legs. Worn comfy on the legs, I feel like I have an ACE bandage around my ribs. Simple solution... I hemmed mine to where they should be. Much more comfortable all around, and I'm told I look much better in them... well, actually... I'm told that the kilts look much better on me.
But hey, it's all about the kilt, right?
Seriously though, a kilt that actually fits you the way it should is much more comfortable. Sort of like shoes that way.

It doesn't offend me. It makes you look like you're wearing a lady's skirt, which is entirely your business.

I wish to point out that actual length and stated length of a kilt sometimes vary. I have several "off the rack" wool kilts by a popular vendor which are all supposedly 24" but they vary from one another by more than an inch in actual length. Furthermore, I have a very nice 8 yard bespoke kilt from an old Edinburgh kilt maker that is 1/2" shorter than the length stated by the maker. All that to say, one must really try a kilt on and see the specific kilt on your own body before determining whether or not it is appropriate length. And by the way, I compensate for these differences by hiking the kilt up or down slightly at the top. Fortunately, they all seem to hang just where I buckle them on.

I was always told that when kneeling the front apron should just touch the ground. When standing it will be halfway down the kneecap. That supposedly is the "traditional" way.
There are no rules to the wearing of trousers (pants) but I think that those who wear them halfway down their backside or the older generation who pull them up past their navel or those who show a few inches of ankle don't look right and in some cases stupid. I feel the same about the wearing of the kilt. Each to their own but expect to be criticised or in some cases ridiculed especially by those outside their peer group.

the knee!!! but I dont like the way it looks and feels.
Thank You
If you don't like the way the kilt should be worn then don't wear the kilt.
Well alright, strong stuff over a piece of clothing. But hold on a minute, let us think about it.
The kilt (I assume we are talking tartan here) is a country's national attire, the kilt does belong to a culture, the kilt does have deep and significant historical meanings to a nation and others with connections to that nation. Are you aware of this?
So do you not think that you should bare that in mind and perhaps modify your thoughts on how you wear your kilt?
You don't think so? OK, carry on wearing a skirt and be well aware that you are upsetting some people, or you are causing them great amusement to which derision often follows.
Should you choose to delve through my past threads, seek out the one titled "an interesting letter", it may give you some food for thought.

Reply to Length of Kilt
I am 6' 2" and 250 lbs. I have no trouble with my Kilt ,I wear it at my navel and over my hips.
I was just asking becuase my clan has just bought alot of Kilts and we could get them Cheap But they were NICE. only problem was they were only going to buy them in 23" .When I asked why they just said that is was a Proper length .I then kept seeing post on our website saying that the proper length of a kilt is 23" ,just out of the blue as if it were a reminder.
Anyway I ordered one and becuase I want 24" I I now am waiting and waiting.
But everyone esle has all ready gotten theres.
I feel like when ever I get mine and show up at a game in it ,I am going to be looked at like I have not followed some length rule .
I am not wearing my Kilt to the floor just to mid knee . But alot of our clansmen wear theres to the top of the knee.
I just asked the first post , because I did not understand why so much was being put on about the length of a mans kilt?
Thank you all for your in put.

Thomas,
As feedback to your last post, and as a kilt maker myself, it makes no sense to me that your clan would arbitrarily decide for all that 23" is "the proper length for a kilt." That could only be true if everyone were the exact same height and build.
The fact of the matter that is that "proper kilt length" is anywhere from mid-knee to slightly above the knee. And for some people that may mean a 23" long kilt. For others it may mean a 24.5" long kilt. The shortest kilt I have seen was 18" long. It looked like a mini, but the gentleman it was made for was rather short, and when he wore it, it looked just right. It was his "proper kilt length." On the other hand, it would have looked ridiculous on me.
Everyone is built differently.
What your clan may have intended to say is that 23" is an "average kilt length" and they would be about right. If they were trying to have kilts made that would be an acceptable length on the greatest number of people, then 23" is a pretty average length. However, as someone who is just a bit taller than you, I'd never wear a 23" long kilt! It would look silly on me.
And given that you are 6' 2", I'd doubt that the 24" long kilt you are waiting on will be too long. Most men your height I have made kilts for have ordered them between 24" and 25" in length, if not a bit longer.
