Tartan in the movie Devils Brigade

I figured I would find the answer on here after searching but can't. Does anyone know what tartan was in the movie the Devils Brigade?

I'm pretty sure it is the Gordon Tartan. Though they wear the insignia of the Calgary Highlanders (shoulder flashes and cap badges).

Even though the Calgary Highlanders pipes and drums only wore the Gordon and the Troops wore the Government Tartan "Black Watch". But hey, its the movies. And at least one or two arent even wearing sporrans.

Thank you Thor I appreciate the info. I was surprised they weren't wearing the blackwatch. I was extremely happy to see the 1 Special Service Force got their own tartan recently.

If I remember correctly, the pipe band in the movie was the Salt Lake Scots.

You're absolutely right cajunscot. But they were wearing the Royal Stewart I think, I cant be certain on that one for sure. I remember it being a predominately Red ish kilt for the band at the beginning.

    Pipe band in "Devil's Brigade"

Correct! The pipe band was the Salt Lake Scots (I use to pipe with them), and the movie filmed at Camp Williams, Utah National Guard army post located between Salt Lake City and Provo. As for the tartan, I don't know.

According to Wikipedia (which is always accurate .... NOT) the Canadian forces did not exist as a unit but was made up of assigned personnel to form the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion but this unit never officially existed either. The tartan in the film is unlikely to belong to this unit but a tartan would have been selected for the film. As it was a freshly made up unit it is also unlikely that at that time it would have had its own band unless those assigned were already bandsmen in their previous units.

Just watched the clip- the tartan looks like MacLean of Duart, which for whatever reason used to be one of the most popular tartans for civilian pipe bands.

Back 30 years ago most pipe bands wore just a few tartans, Royal Stewart, MacLean of Duart, and red MacPherson being the most popular. You could see ten pipe bands in a row at a contest in Scotland, all wearing one of those three.

Agreed. MacLean of Duart for my money.
