We're fine here in Springfield, Virginia. Didn't even really lose power, though I heard a transformer explode last night around 3 a.m. We have some small branches down, but that's all. Some friends in Maryland lost a lot of trees, and one crushed their shed, possibly smashing my friend's precious John Deere mower.

Th worst of Irene has passed by Central Pennsylvania, and other than losing power for eight hours came through relatively unscathed.

Well, other than while moving the cars to a nearby parking lot so they were not parked under trees, I found that even a UK Survival is not heavy enough to wear in 60 mph winds. However, it did look quite fetching with the hem around my neck.

We dodged the bullet in the Fredericksburg area. Have a few trees down in the community where I work which is being cleaned up. Fortunately no trees down at home.

The coastal area of VA is a different story with thousands without power and much tree damage. The latest I've heard is 3 deaths here related to the storm and the total is nine. Prayers for the northeast USA and Canada.

Irene has now arrived in Massachusetts. The eye of the now 'Tropical storm' is further west of us on the Atlantic/Gulf of Maine coast who currently have very high winds at 11.30 am Eastern.

    Thanks Kyle,

So far so good the last I heard the main track of Irene was still to the south-west of us in eastern Mass.

Here in Connecticut the wind and rain began Sat. night about midnight and continued until about 2:00 PM Sun. afternoon. All in all we received about 10 inches of rain which ended up causing most of the problems with flooded streams, rivers, roads etc. Winds were strong but not catastrophic.

What remained of the 'eye' passed about 20 miles west of my home. My barometer at that time read 28.78

All in all we personally didn't fare too badly.
