I'm a pipe man myself and like nothing better than when I get a moment to myself to get out the trusty Camden Hardcastle and have a couple of bowlfuls of the latest. At the moment I am enjoying Rattrays' Marlin Flake... I can't seem to get on with their "Highland Targe" for some reason though.

I, too, am mostly a pipe smoker but every once in a while I will splurge and buy a Montecristo 1886 or A. Fuente. The other day I found an Ashton I forgot I had. If it's not too dried out, I'll smoke it while I'm at work this evening.

If you're very patient, you can usually re-hydrate them slowly and dodge the swell & split in the wrap to rescue a fairly decent smoke.

Andy, is your hatred toward the Dominican Cohiba or Cuban?

I'm not Andy (obviously) but the thing about Cohiba that bugs me is it's rather sad marketing of their name to any and everything you could put a brand name on.

Want a Cohiba jacket? no problem
a Cohiba tea cozy? you're covered, etc

I think the Cohiba brand is so famous in America because it's one of the few names that isn't "too Spanish" for most Americans to pronounce

The Cuban. It tastes to me like acrid burning piles of urine soaked hay. I know many like Cohiba, but it hits me poorly. As yet I haven't had the Dominican Cohiba.

Try Rattray's Old Gowrie. It is one of their other Virginia tobaccos, a little fresher taste than the more aged Marlin flake.
