Congratulations, Weepeskythistle.
It has always struck me as odd that Britain (over the past half-century or so) has failed to give preference to immigrants who actually speak English, and has actively discriminated against Britons who had the misfortune of having been born elsewhere.
A woman I once knew was born in Éire while her parents, resident in England, were on holiday there. She came to South Africa with a British passport, but was then told (quite rudely) that it would not be renewed and that she had to get an Irish passport.
I look forward to seeing pictures of you kilted in England or Scotland (preferably both!).
Regards,
Mike

You must come along to Harpenden gathering next year and introduce yourself to some of the other xmarkers of the British Isles.
Thanks. I would love to see Harpenden! So refreshingly kind of you to invite me.

Oh well, maybe in my case they are holding a grudge over the independence thing! (: I have been told that we couldn't be bothered with since England had bigger fish to fry! You would have to know the source...well you do actually...Anywhoo, I don't care to get involved in governments and try to be neutral. I am of a group or two or three that very few human institutions like anyway. Had I been alive in the 1700s, I would not have rebelled and just let stuff happen and stayed in England. I don't want to turn this thread into a political thing. I mean I like these discussions but not here.
Mind you, I am trying to reinvent my life when I get there but becoming a show-off in my kilt...well that would be a stretch. I hate having my photo taken. But let me tell you, I have one luscious kilt and two wonderfull kilt pins. They were gifts. Oh and a tartan scarf. I have to wear my sporran (I have two but I am not strong enough to break the leather in and soften it! very macho that sporran) as a cross-body bag as it takes up my entire lap area. Sort of looks like it is wearing me...Plus I have a handmade sgian dubh that is rustic but dainty. I pretend entire stories around that...

Yes, it does seem as if they hold the War of Independence against you.
Strange that they are not so negative about apartheid. But then we did belong to the Commonwealth until 1961, so perhaps that counted for something (and we are back in the Commonwealth now).
Regards,
Mike

Sounds like a story title to me -- The Sporran That Wore The Thistle

Mmm, you know, it is my intent upon the reinvention of myself to live a steamy novel life...perhaps this could be the title of the screenplay I am writing...you could give me content. Perhaps reduce cheeky
comments about small goats and miniature horses and definitely leave out snakes...Yep, I like this title. Now to judge some "babe magnets" (cough) to pose for the cover.
