I'm one of the ones guilty of too long kilts. I got my boys new kilts for the VA Scottish Games - they're about an inch too long, but all my kids are doing is growing these days, so if I hem them, I'll have to take them down in a few months, and hemming them will mess up the pleats. Plus my carpal tunnel and arthritis in my hands has been acting up lately.

There, I admit to being a lazy loser full-of-excuses Mom! (and yes, I pulled those kilts up high!)

I don't have an issue with kids wearing clothes slightly too large, which is why I noted that when counting those who wore their kilts below the knee I didn't count kids. They grow so fast that the clothes will soon be too small. So, for a brief period of time, their kilts will be quite proper in length!

I was also being generous in not counting band members since many bands "issue" the kilts to its members and they may not fit quite right. I also didn't count sport kilts and utilikilts since they are meant to be worn a bit differently than the traditional kilt. If I had counted these, my numbers may have been more like 1:6 (or higher) instead of 1:4.
