    Smile Another DIY Dirk

Many thanks to SirDaniel1975 for the idea

Had an old Hanwei Dirk Blade sitting around "The early version one"

Got some sculpy clay and made a handle, Then fit it to the tang and stuck it in the oven on 250 for 30 minutes. Not sure if it weaken the blade at all?

Sanded down and put some wood stain on it, now I am adding the brass buttcap.
The handle is still somewhat larger then what it should be, but not as bad as the monster 20' dirk that the blade came from..

I've never tried knife-making, but it looks pretty cool!
I wouldn't think 250 degrees would hurt the blade. Just hone it real sharp and you'll have a fine knife.

Thanks Piper Just added all the brass now letting it dry good for a few days.
That's what I was thinking, there were no bends in the blade at all.

That should not lessen the temper on the blade at all, especially at 30 minutes. When you get in the 400 range and start getting a blue purple look on the blade is when you get problems.

How durable is that sculpty stuff?

Looking good. How the putty holds on after some time? Any cracks?
