Thank you, Steve, for posting this. However, before we start singing KumBaYah, let me go down to the bottom of the pronouncement and I think, the heart of the matter:

We are a community of kilt wearers. We share and respect the kilt in all its forms and in all the ways it can be worn. Of course we will sometimes disagree among ourselves but when someone outside of our community attempts to tell a member that they are wrong or cannot wear the kilt we band together in support.
This is what I think the real problem is - not that there are some who tell us the right way to wear the kilt or what is proper with the kilt, but Do You Have The RIGHT To Wear The Kilt. (Raphael and Father Bill and Cowher have mentioned the harm of this dictum.)

There are those on this forum who think there are people who do not have the right to wear the kilt, based on their pedigree. Little squabbles over hose color and kilt length are minor fashion decisions, but to be told that you are not worthy to wear the kilt because of your ancestors, this is my version of the true Kilten Polizei.

You got my drift and said it right. Thank you!

Exactly what a lot of us have been saying for years---there is no such thing as "Kilt Kops."

But do a search for "Kilt Police" (in quotations) on this forum...nevermind the variations on the theme... and you will get over 500 returns.

It appears that some folks don't get it.

I must say the latter half of this thread is so much more positive than the first half.Early on some of the posts made me wonder what all the fuss is about, but the latter half seems to have been firmly steered in the right direction by good men saying,

"Ho! A forum is for debate, for comparison of differing ideas and views. If you're too precious for hearing a viewpoint that might not be your own, then pick up youre bat and ball and go home!"

As adult men,and women,we should all know by now that to expect to agree all the time is laughable. The beauty of this forum is we are all allowed to reply in a reasoning manner to any view we see.Why sook when you can just jump on the thread and let be known that there is a different view? That's what makes it so interesting!

Have to look into it a little more, but I would suspect a hefty majority of those hits are references to people not on this forum.

I think you may need to explain yourself a little further. Mr. Ashton said:
"Of course we will sometimes disagree among ourselves but when someone outside of our community attempts to tell a member that they are wrong or cannot wear the kilt we band together in support. "
You placed the emphasis in the wrong place IMHO.
To show whow some thing can be taken out of context I will give you an example from you own post:
You use the term "Kilten Polizei" (German reference), is this some sort of reference that traditionalist are facist or worse. Are you refering to the dark days of Germany and lumping traditionalist along with that timeframe and mindset?
Yes we were all singing KumBaYah and seemed to have reached an understanding of our misunderstanding so how could such a reference possibly help the issue?

I don't know what Irish Jack meant but this is the kind of thing that bothers me.

How easily it is, once started...once allowed...for things to degenerate into vitriol.

A previous poster suggested that most of the references to "kilt police" refer to people off the forum. Some do. Most, in my experience, don't. Most are, in fact, located in discussions that reference Traditional Kilt wear. In one way or another, they are all saying, by implication if not directly, that anyone who comments or criticizes about the appropriateness of wearing the kilt below the knees, for instance, is somehow illiberal or even...as you say...fascist.

To my mind it just flies in the face of everything this forum says it's about...flies in the face of all the self-congratulatory posturing about respect and tolerance and gentlemanly behaviour...to indulge in this kind of petty name-calling, no matter who it's aimed at.

I don't know if that was what he meant either, I was using and stated it as an example of how things can be taken and twisted into something entirely different from what the honest intent was.
