New Austin Area Games and Celtic Fest
The first Sherwood Forest Celtic Festival and Highland Games will coming up on September 24-25th, 2011, they will be held at the Sherwood Forest renfaire grounds near McDade Texas.
This will be a non-renfaire event celebrating Celtic history and cultures, with a focus on music and athletics.
There will be plenty of traditional and modern music from the likes of Clandestine, the Blaggards, Abby Green, and Sarah Dinan, to name a few.
The planned comps so far include Caber Toss, Hammer Throw, Weight Over Bar, Stone Put, Maide Leisg, and Bagpipe Competitions.
They are looking for clans and organizations that focus on Celtic history as well, so if you want to participate check the website and let them know.

Already contacted them after hearing about this on another forum. I am really glad they are doing this since the Houston games and Cowtown Celtic fesitval were cancelled.

Might be a fun day trip down from deep in the piney woods!

The latest requirement is that clan conveners must bring a fire extinguisher in case the summer drought's ill effects are still apparent.

Well, it looks like the weather is gonna be pretty nice for the Festival, at least not so damn hot anyway!
The weekend’s Entertainment Schedule is up on the Sherwood website, and discounted tickets are still avalible.

Zardoz,
Looks like I'll finally get a chance to meet you. Amy and I are planning to drive down for the games.
Since the Lamonts will have a tent there so I'll probably be in my Lamont modern.

Re: New Austin Area Games and Celtic Fest
Slight change for me, with the heat I'm leaving the wool kilts home. I know that this snowbird is a bit of a wimp but I've done the tank in 90+ and I just don't enjoy it as much.
Went into the closet and decided to go modern military. Got out my Navy camo, boots and t-shirt. Did a long awaited upgrade to it.
Should be on the road at O'dark 30 (6am) and be there in time for opening.
