That is nothing short of awesome! Thanks for posting the photos and details. I think the fabric you used would go perfectly with my MacTavish Modern tartan, and a dark green would look equally great with my Stephenson Modern tartan. Now I need to find someone who will make them for me!

Well done Dave, both the jacket/waistcoat, and the hose, are really great!

    You are a talented man!

    I like your leaf hose!

In fact, you've given me a new idea for elaborate kilt hose on a budget.

    another Gold Star award...

First, congratulations on having made the jacket-- it looks great and raises the bar in terms of non-formal Highland attire. Well done, indeed. The Gold Star is really awarded for your choice of buttons-- these are every bit as cool as Argyll's salmon buttons or Macgregor's pine cone buttons, and the thinking behind them, frankly, impresses the hell out of me...

On the TEN SCALE of Highland sartorial achievement your overall look scores a solid 10.

    Well done, indeed!

Just imagine all the alterations I had to make to that pattern!

It's Simplicity 5029, not Butterick, and is out of print.

    I was half-right.

To clarify, you actually made that entirely from a pattern! Wow. I'm an amazed at the level of talent here. I really need to learn how to sew and make stuff like that. I am truly impressed.

Did you use a hair canvas front for interfacing, piperdbh?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
