The main problem I have with hillwalking meets is that one of the main reasons I take to the hills is to get a bit of peace and quiet away from other people! There is very little to equal walking/sitting on a hillside in the middle of nowhere with no-one else for miles around, just enjoying the tranquility and the natural surroundings and the only sounds are that of the wind/bird calls etc.

    Hillwalking kilted

I do agree with the idea of walking in solitude. I do it myself !

Sometimes, though, having people of similar mind can make for a pleasant day out.

I love my 16 oz. kilt. Where did you get the 22 oz.?!

    Alan,

Maybe we can organise a hillwalking meet? It's something we can aim for. Arrangements to suit everyone are often a problem, but something to which we can give thought at least.

That's a great idea Al. If I was over there I would definitley participate. me and a friend are planning a couple of hill walks this summer.

    Al,

I could well be interested, depending on where and when.

Can someone explain to me exactly what "hillwalking" is? Is it just hiking in a hilly area or is there more to it than that?

Hillwalking is simply walking in the hills. Not mountaineering, and not a walk along a country lane.

Last week's little meander in the Lake District has decided it - now that the weather seems to have settled down and the walking kilt's back out of hibernation, it's time to polish up the boots and head for the hills. Need to get the maps and guide books out to find a nice little easy-going 10-12miler to creak the old joints back into action before trying anything too strenuous. However, hectic social diary over the next few weekends means I may have to sneak a mid-week day off work next week - oh dear, what a shame!!

Obviously that doesn't mean that the "non-hillwalking" activities aren't ok to do in a kilt!
