    Odd question

I have a Bruce Mod, and a Bruce Acnt. kilt, and I am wondering what color in the way of tweed for a jacket? Can anyone help?

Hmm... Maybe a nice creme and brown herringbone? That was my first thought.

    Re: Odd question

Hello from a fellow Bruce tartan wearer. I have my eye on a charcoal-colored jacket/waistcoat, personally. I think if you go with the browns/greys it'll be easier than trying to make a green work with both ancient and modern shades. That's just my take on it. Do post pictures once you've made up your mind.

    Cheers from Iowa.

    Re: Odd question

If you go to the USA Kilts site or the STM site, both have many images of tweed samples and both are great vendors (and advertisers here). Try to get out of the matchy, matchy mode. Have a look at the sites and go with something that catches YOUR eye.

    Re: Odd question

Don't worry so much about matching a tweed up with the tartan of your kilt. Wear whatever tweed you like.

    + 1

JSFMACLJR is right on. Pick a tweed that you like, and it will all come together. If you try too hard to match, you will second guess yourself over and over.

Here's a visual of a tweed jacket with a kilt in a similar color pallet to the Bruce Anc.

    Just another option

    Best of luck!

    Re: Odd question

Exact colour matching is not usual for mens wear of any kind as it produces the effect of a uniform. However, if you want to make sure the colours "work" together there are some basic fashion rules to consider. Of course, some recommend not even trying and just wearing what you please but that approach can sometimes cause clashes of colour

So, the basic fashion colour rules are:

Neutral colours - these will look good with any other colour. Examples are white, cream, beige, grey, black

Toning colours - these are shades of colours found in your kilt. Examples are red, green and yellow

Complementary colours - these are the colour wheel opposites. But as you already find opposites in the tartan (red and green) these are already covered above

Picking out - picking a single lesser colour and using that in accessories

So, following these basic ideas you can see that you already have THREE excellent suggestions already. Ryan suggests cream/brown, TheBrus suggests Charcoal and Rocky suggests Highland Green. All of these will co-ordinate well but I prefer the Highland Green for day wear. If you can afford it then go with Charcoal or Black for more formal wear if you have a need for that

Whatever you do it will, as Mikilt says, all come together whatever you decide
