Since first coming to this forum, what has struck me as three of the most interesting points are firstly the sheer internationalism of the members, literally almost anywhere on the globe from Australia to North America. This, of course, produces the further benefit that as a result of all the differing time zones, postings go in literally round the clock so that regardless of what local time you log in at there is almost always something new.

Secondly, the exchange of views is ALWAYS friendly. Now I freely admit that as a Scot I do hold a slightly more conservative/traditional/(old-fashioned?) call it what you want view of what does/doesn’t go with the kilt and in this respect have been surprised (horrified might be a better word!) by some of the combinations others happily wear, and personally think that the trend towards wear what you want/how you want is a regrettable backward step rather than a move forward. However, whenever I have ventured to disagree with someone else the responses have always been friendly and constructive and (at least to date) I have never been accused of being an old fuddy-duddy or told to get with it/move with the times.

Finally, the postings have remarkably remained “on topic” ie matters associated with kilts. It has been my sad experience of other kilted forums that sooner or later the skirt-wearing fraternity discover it and quickly take it over by swamping the postings with their own particular views. From memory, there has only been one skirt-supporting post (re the so-called Mountain Kilt, which those who have seen one will know is a pure wrap-over straight skirt and has no kilt connections whatever) and which the members mostly ignored.

Long may this continue!

Robbie, I couldn't agree more, and I'm one who has read your postings with interest but not nessecarily understanding. To be honest I don't really care if my kilt pin is 2" in and 3" up or stuck firmly between my eyes, but thats surely the point, theres room in the world for all of us and as long as we respect each others views an exchange of opinion is always good.
I am equally open to skirt wearers I just have no interest in wearing them talking about them so feel that a seperate forum is reasonable.
However Celt is worrying me. My wife is a fashion victim and reliably informs me that both pink and poodles are 'in' this year, so Celt would you like to share with us why you seem so 'up' on women's fashion?

I definately feel more @ home here than in other forum. Kilts are what I like and wear. Anything less will just be skirts. Since I am a skirt chaser, I have no desire to get myself into one of those things.

Keep on keepin on, Robbie. A conservative viewpoint always helps to keep things grounded. I agree with the kilts only forums. This is the only forum I keep up with due to that reason and the harmony here!

I too like the traditional look of formal kilt attire, (but then I'm nearly a Scot, geographically at any rate. Had the Eastern border been 100 miles south of where it is I would have been!!)

I do wear my kilt in a more casual style as well so my stance is probably on middle ground somewhere.

One thing I don't agree on is that all topics should be exclusively kilt related. We would soon cover the basics and end up repeating the same old advice over and over.

We cover the globe with our membership and I like to know what's going on in other parts of the world. OK so I could watch CNN all day. But this doesn't give the personal viewpoint.

Xmarks is a kilt site, yes. But it's always interesting to hear different views on lifestyle and current affairs. That's what makes forums like this that little bit more interesting.

why this forum is such an obvious success.
Like Donnie, this is the only forum I keep up with.
In fact, it is the only online forum I have ever
been involved with for any length of time.
Why? Because its subjects interest me and the
the members do use respect. Respect, that is
so sadly lacking in so much of society and
the world these days.

bcmtnbka, I guess if you put on a skirt you'd just have to go chase yourself Anyway, I'm still very new to kilts and so far using fabric I had laying around I made two denim kilts. I'd love to go fully traditional but, like others I'm sure, cost is a prohibitive factor. I found some very tartan-like fabric at the local fabric store yesterday and plan on a couple more traditional looking kilts even if they aren't actual tartans while I'm not so patiently waiting for the arrival of some real tartan I ordered. On a budget we do what we can. Meantime, it's great getting advice and comment from others that are familiar with the real deal.
