Our wedding wouldnt be when he would be kilted. Our Pakistani wedding will be traditional Pakistani. Our American wedding also wouldnt be kilted as that would just be weird for my family. lol. I would maybe wear a tartan sash across my dress but I wouldnt put him in a kilt for that.

We'll find something and we'll make it work.

Again, I dont know if the awra is right above the knee or right below. I will have to ask and then plan accordingly. MY tartan skirt is already fine and dandy and Im the one with Scot/Irish ancestory. I just dont want him to feel left out if he can't represent my culture at stuff. He was sort of looking forward to it.

It's easier being a Muslim woman with this stuff, apparently. My clothing requirements arent going against any traditions. We'll work with his stuff though and make sure he feels included too.

isn't it fun!!! I love it too. It makes me laugh because that song pretty much represents both identities of my future kids (God willing). lol.

Alrighty then. As a married man, I know good and well that the western wedding will have little to no input from the lucky groom. The eastern wedding will be planned by the grooms' family and have little input from the bride to be. Correct? If so, that's pretty normal and things will go fairly well, I hope.

Now for my idea of the western wedding:

The grooms side of the party will be kilted. This includes the brides father who will be resistant. It's HER day, so man up and kilt up. Also the groom, with kilt slightly below his knees so as not to violate his religious requirements. If she wants him kilted, do whatever it takes. The groom and father of the bride should be wearing the family/district/whatever tartan, the rest wear whatever tartan they already own.

The brides side of the party will be wearing tasteful dresses in the brides chosen color, styled to slightly resemble traditional Desi dress.

The grooms party will be led by the father of the bride and best man to the front of the church or whatever outdoor location the wedding is held.

Reminiscent of the origins of "Best Man", the father of the bride and the best man will then leave to retrieve the bride. She and her party will be led through the center of the congregation to the front of the church and presented to the groom and minister.

I dislike cutesy and self written wedding vows, so the standard vows and rings will be exchanged. Consult The Book of Common Prayer if you have any questions.

Anyone objecting will find out why there is a best man. It ain't because he's such a handsome fellow.

The now happily wedded couple will be led from the wedding hall by a piper to the reception line. The piper will continue on to another location distant enough for the pipes to be heard, but not interfere with the couple hearing their well deserved congratulations.

The reception dinner will serve roast beef, potatos, fried cabbage and assorted vegetables as well as several items of traditional Desi fare. I happen to like lamb curry. And kabobs. Who am I kidding, I like most foods I've tried around the world.

At the end of the reception, the lucky couple will be piped to a carriage (that's where the horses come in) that will take them out of sight to a waiting car that drives them to the airport where they embark on their honeymoon. The pigeons can get defeathed by exhaust upon takeoff. Or shot by hired ghillies. I'm not a big fan of birds, unless it's pheasant and I've got a hunting tag. And a crock pot. And a little pepper.

Least that's what I'd do. But I'm not even an uncle. I don't think.

^ That was seriously awesome. I have a huge smile on my face and even read it with my hopefully groom-to-be. He and I were both laughing and imagining that.

My dad would probably not come if he was told that he'd have to kilt up. hahaha. He may have Scot/Irish blood in his veins, but that's pretty much it. THe pride went from my grandpa right to me and skipped over him. lol.

I know that our Pakistani wedding will be 100% Pakistani with next to no fusion from my culture at all conidering I will be the only white person there. lol. ....

FWIW, we have some neighbors who are Irish Catholic (the wife) and Jewish (the husband). The wife's sister married a Pakistani and they lived in Pakistan for about 15 years until it became a little too violent and the wife and children moved to the States to be near her family. I sort of took the teen-age boy under my wing for a few months until his father was able to arrive. Nice family.
