Final Voyage of the Waverley for 2011

Sunday 16th October saw the final voyage of the Waverley, the last ocean going paddle steamer in the world for this year's sailing programme.
The Waverley sailed to the Kyles of Bute, stopping at Greenock, Largs,Rothesay and Tighnabruaich on its journey. Here are some photos of the sea lochs on the Clyde.

This obviously is not the Waverley but a naval frigate sailing down from the Gare Loch from its base at Faslane with Helensburgh in the background

From Greenock, across the Clyde, the village and pier of Kilgreggan

On the left the entrance to the Holy Loch besides Dunoon, the former USA Polaris Nuclear base and on the right, the entrance to Loch Long

Western Ferries crossing between Dunoon and Gourock

Cool Re: Final Voyage of the Waverley for 2011

To the left the Isle of Great Cumbrae, then the Isle of Bute and behind Bute, the mountains of the Isle of Arran

Calling at Rothesay on the Isle of Bute with its famous pavilion in the background

    The entrance to Loch Striven

The entrance to Loch Riddon on the Kyles of Bute

    Approching the pier at Tignabruaich

    Tighnabruaich Pier

The church at Colintraive on the Kyles, the local story here is that no person living in Colintraive can be buried in the church's graveyard ......... they have to be dead

Super pics, reminding me of what I have missed this season. I never quite managed to catch up with Waverley this season.

its future was in doubt for next year but it seems that the on-going appeal for cash and appeals to local councils and to Holyrood will be successful and she will sail next year

Nice pictures, Jimmy. Thanks for taking the time to post. Just so I can put the distances in perspective, how long did the whole trip take?

Jimmy: Thanks so much for posting those wonderful pictures. I enjoyed each and all.

In the first picture of post #3 I think I see Nessie! ... off to the right.

I even like your corny kirk joke. My grandfather loved jokes like that. It brought him to mind, thank you.

That's a nice looking casual outfit you are wearing. You look very relaxed in it. And, my favorite picture is the "crew of the Waverly" - a good looking group.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.
