Re: Disgusted with some of this board right now.
That thread really did take a turn for the worst. It's a viable question: "where to find non-wool kilts?" There are numerous reasons to look for a non-wool kilt: being vegan, allergic to wool, etc.

Re: Disgusted with some of this board right now.
As one of the people who posted in the thread, allow me to apologize. Reading through the thread, I was a bit caught up in the dicussion and glossed over the fact that the OP was a new member. As for the ribbing, my wife, while not vegan, is a vegetarian and I am not. This kind of discussion is quite common in my house where both parties are very aware of the mutual respect for their beliefs. I think we may get a bit too comfortable around here and forget that forum posts lose a very large part of the human element and that most of the members here are not completely familiar with each other's persona, whether it be typically sarcastic, devil's advocate, or just good ole' fashioned bluntness, though I am not trying to excuse rude behavior.
cmacra28, if we haven't run you off, welcome to X Marks! We've certainty not put our best foot forward and behaved as the ladies and gentlemen we strive to be. While we all don't completely agree on most anything, I've found that we have a great bunch of people around here, if I can look past our varying and often opposing views. Again, I am sorry for my behavior and will be more vigilant in the future to not come across with such a flippant attitude.

Re: Disgusted with some of this board right now.
As a recent recipient of a derogatory post I applaud the mods and recognise that they have a very difficult and diplomatic role to perform. Whilst I recognise that we are all from different backgrounds and cultures and indeed all have personal experiences which sometimes are still raw wounds, we react to posts and opinions in different ways. What is offensive to one may not be offensive to another. So basically what I am saying is well done Mods for keeping this forum the generally pleasant and friendly forum that it is.
We all have to respect one another and to embrace the policy of Inclusion and Diversity which touches all of the members of XMTS.
Have respect for different views and except that sometimes we can agree to disagree without recourse to insults or rancour and then go and have a pint.
As recently reminded by a Mod, they give their time freely and without any bias to keep this forum the wonderful place that it is.
Thank you Moderators and keep up the high standards that you have set to make this place free from any posts that do not recognise the multi cultural, ethnic and diverse backgrounds we all come from.

I just went back and read over the whole thing, and I can see where being on the receiving end might make one a little sore. So, CDN fixed it, and everyone behaved.
But, having said that, I can say that being on the receiving end of piling on is no fun. Had happen to me once, right here, and at least one of the folks complaining were among the piler-onners. It's really a matter of perspective, and I hope that New Guy can take it all in stride.
And, yes, I do agree that the current mods do an excellent job without reporting to Gestapo tactics.
Well said, and I completely agree with you!
Cheers,

I totally agree with you Simon, the moderators have a difficult task and (IMO) are very fair.

I don't understand people like "TheOneWhoWillNotBeNamed". I missed that thread at first but it's the biggest reason I come here once a week or so to lurk. In the past I posted everyday. It's sad really. I loved XMTS a year ago. It's a awkward relationship now.

It's too bad the ribbing cmacra28 (Chris) got. The Mods stepped in and shut it down, and Nighthawk has started this tread to express his frustration with what happened. And true to XMRKS fashion this thread has filled up with apologizes to Chris, and support. But resorting to "TheOneWhoWillNotBeNamed" (whomever that is?) is just the type of childish response that presumably Nighthawk wished did not occur on the site. Comments like that keep the fires burning, and create undue tension on the board. I too have been absent for some time, and I didn't do any lurking. I'm back now, and am a bit dismayed that only 30 people (and that's a high number) ever seem to on-line at one time. I remember before, getting up in the morning and seeing that 5 pages of posts were made the night before... now maybe 3 and additional comments on perhaps another 4. If this place is to thrive and move on; well quite frankly digging comments like yours will not help.

Well, Frank the way I see it you kind of answered your own question about the percieved lack of members and 'action' on the forum. The way it works now is; somebody posts a statement or question that provokes some "discussion" and that's all good until the discussion gets 'lively', then someone gets their feelings hurt, after which they flag the post or pester a mod to shut it down etc..
The end result being; that discussion stops, and the folks involved in it, as well as the ones reading it, think twice before participating in any potentially lively threads in the future.

Re: Disgusted with some of this board right now.
Hi,
Just a quick point of clarification here... Please understand that the thread in question was not "shut down." It is currently being held locked as a temporary measure.
Here's what happened. This thread was reported yesterday by an XMTS member, which alerted us that we should take a look at it. I was the first mod that was online to take a look at it.
When I reviewed the thread, I decided that it would be best to move it temporarily to the "Cooling Off Corner" until the mod team could decide how the complaint should be dealt with. The procedure we follow is available for any member to read here: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...dispute_policy
Briefly stated, the mod team will vote on a solution using a poll, whereby the majority will carry the outcome. We just don't arbitrarily shut down threads (or posts) and we always try to act as a team, rather than as individual mods. For what it's worth, I used to be a moderator on a forum where this was NOT the case and mods had free reign to censor, lock, delete entire threads, and even ban users at whim. Needless to say, it resulted in some nasty arguments and the mods were at each other's throats much of the time.
Oftentimes, outcomes will also take into account the OP's wishes. If the original poster decides that their thread has served its purpose and would prefer it be locked, they are generally given that privilege. Again, not all forums allow this, but on XMTS it is allowed.
