I'm not so much trying to be a DPS as I am trying not to be a balloon! Any candy in the house will call to me with it's sugary sweet voice, seducing me with yummy goodness. I find it best to avoid it's siren call by walking past the Hallowe'en aisle at double speed.

I dress up with and take our daughter trick or treating in the neighborhood. A lot of people out here expect the kids to tell some sort of a joke or something...but always accept her signing "trick or candy" after I let them know she doesn't speak. She really seems to enjoy going, too.

Although society now has Halloween about vampires, ghost, gouls, witches, etc., and some would have this holiday or celebration totally abandoned, at least a portion of the true meaning of this day is observed before the revelry and “trick or treating” of the modern evening celebration.

In Sleepy Hallow they have a whole program now and a fellow actually shows up on horseback as the legendary Hessian.

Gael Ridire, my tradition is essentially the same as yours. I usually get together with the Living Earth pagan group here in town, go to the Colorado Witches Ball, and participate in the midnight Samhain ritual. I do lots of other things, too, of course, that are less formal and traditional. This year, the night before the Witches Ball, we're going to the Steampunk's Victorian masquerade ball, which is new- I've made lots of new friends with the Steampunks over the last year. We're doing the haunted house thing on Sunday, and of course, I always dress the house and yard up all scary-like and do my level best to scare the urine out of as many people as possible. I make them work for their candy...

What can I say? It's my favorite holiday. And besides- I'm a huge Bruce Campbell fan. I love all things cheesey and campy. And Halloween (the modern practice) fits well into that category!

I'm with you Dixiecat. The quiet voice of chocolate whispering to me negates all restraint on my part. I buy great goodies, but ones that I don't like so much, but the kids and friends love. Then I have a tallish friend (I'm a shortie) hide it way back in a cupboard that requires me to get out a ladder and stand on the kitchen counter to reach it! It's a great deterrant.

In the garden, I noticed today there are two small pomegranate fruits on the tree I planted last winter, and they are ready to harvest. I will save them for Halloween; I also have a pumpkin.
