Hello all,
My names Daniel. I was given up for adoption when I was only a few weeks old. I recently discovered that my biological mother was a scottish decsendant. Her family name was Peters (her grandfather changed from MacGregor when the came to Australia).
I have met my biological uncle Eoin too, and he says our crest reads " 'S Rioghal Mo Dhream. " How is this pronounced?
I was wondering about my heritage, and what it means. Any information you guys can give will be greatly appreciated.

My understanding that it translates from Scottish Gaelic as "my blood is royal".

Thats also Walkers motto as well. At least I know thats the reason why it's also the motto for Walker as Walker was used as a name alias by MacGregor.

In English, it translates to Royal is my Race. As for the pronounciation, Im not so sure.

Another note: MacGregor name was outlawed during the 16th century, many took the names of their friends and neighbours, there is a summery list somewhere with names adopted by MacGregors, the Walkers are among the listed names and Peters...I think as Peters is a listed sept of MacGregor, that maybe the influence for the name change.

This wouldnt, however, guarantee that my Walker ancestor from Scotland (circa...mid 1800s) was a MacGregor down the line though, would it?

Nothing is a guarantee regarding surnames, not going into septs, as stating with Peters as a possible motive for Daniels great-grandfathers change from MacGregor to Peters...I was simply stating as you said that Walker also carry the MacGregor Clan Motto...Walker is a possiblity, not a certainty.

17th century, actually. It was after the Battle of Glen Fruin, which was in 1603.

The Colquhouns and The Battle of Glenfruin:

During a feud with the Clan Colquhoun in 1603 (could it possibly have been about... uhm... say... land?), Chieftain Alexander MacGregor fought in the celebrated Battle of Glenfruin (near Loch Lomond). When the tide of battle shifted to the MacGregors, the Colquhouns turned and fled. Some of the MacGregors gave pursuit, and a number of Colquhouns were killed. The widows and mothers laid the bloody shirts of their slain kinsmen in front of King James VI and complained about the barbarity of the MacGregors. This—along with other circumstances—led to the prosecution of the clan, with the Laird of MacGregor and many of his followers being executed in 1604.
