    Highland Fling

Has anyone had experience with a vendor Highland Fling in Lake Orion, MI? A search on XMTS does bring up a reference or two, but I could not find any real customer satisfaction info. I ordered an Argyle tweed jacket and waistcoat from them in early June. I have dealt with Gordon. I need to say that Gordon has ALWAYS been very courteous. However, it's going on 5 months, and no jacket. I was originally given an estimate of 6-8 weeks. At the end of August, I checked with Gordon and he said his tailor in Scotland had not returned his emails and he thought they were on holiday. I checked a couple of weeks later and he said the jacket and Waistcoat were in the mail and I should have them any day. I checked a couple of weeks later and he said he didn't know where they were. At the end of September I got a call from Gordon (the first) he said my order had accidentally been shipped to Australia and his tailor said it would be faster for them to make another one and ship it directly to me. Gordon said I would get it "right away". That was a month ago. Meanwhile the main event I wanted the jacket for (dinner with my Clan Chief at Stone Mountain) has come and gone. I truly do not mind waiting for something that is custom tailored. But, the lack of communication and being told things repeatedly that do not happen gives me concern. At this point it seems I have two options, keep calling Gordon and asking when I will receive my order, or ask for my deposit back (I put half down).
So, Rabble, has anyone out there had any experience with Highland Fling? Meanwhile, I have learned my lesson and have since been working directly with a tailor for another jacket & waistcoat.

Aww mate, sorry to hear of this. I have never heard of Highland Fling. I would order your jackets from Rocky at USA Kilts, or Matt at Scottish Tartans Museum, or Nick at Scotweb, or from Kinloch-Anderson direct - you cannot go wrong with any of the aforementioned companies (and some, XMTS sponsors!) - they are all outstanding and actually care about providing the best customer service!

We need to have a wee dram at Nicholson's in downtown Cincinnati - I've been there quite a bit for happy hour for a quick pint of Belhaven, now that I work a block away! Any plans for St. Andrew's Day? We are thinking of celebrating Saturday, November 26, at Nicholson's, since the 30th is on a Wednesday this year.

    Hope all is well,

I'd have thought it would have been quicker to have the person in australia ship it myself... Maybe not without some logistical hurdles, but I wouldnt have thought they were insurmountable...

Me too. Apparently the vendor in Australia liked the jacket and decided to keep it and sell it at his store. I did call Gordon and ask for an update. There was no answer, so I left a voice mail... have not heard back <sigh>

    Re: Highland Fling

Update: I called Highland Fling and was able to reach the owner, Gordon. Turns out the tailor in Scotland seems to be leaving him in the lurch. Gordon said they are not responding to his emails and he does not know what is going on. Sadly, he said he has other customers in the same boat as I. To his credit, Gordon told me he has put a check in the mail today refunding my deposit.

Gorddon was true to his word. A refund check came to me yesterday. Too bad his supplier let him down. I was looking forward to that Argyle jacket. It was the perfet shade of blue - darker than the lavid blue that is commonsly seen, but much lighter than a navy blue.

Sorry I did not see this earlier. I have bought stuff at Highland Fling on more than one occasion and have always been treated right. Gordon is great guy to deal with and actually was thinking of giving him a call to order a new bonnet.
