Re: Autumn
When I was young we had an orchard of 120 Crispin apple trees, with a couple of plum trees and a couple of pears - Victoria and Conference, a row of gooseberry bushes too.
Whenever I can find Crispins I have to buy them, but they don't seem to taste quite the same.
One of the plum trees was hit by lightening - that was amazing. It split the trunk and there were cooked plums all on the ground, and some still on the tree, with the stones cracked inside the fruits. Next year the tree blossomed, greened and fruited as though nothing had happened.
The trees I have are 'golden delicious' - I bought them to rescue them from the supermarket, they were the only two trying to grow the rest looked dead. Their apples are not like those in the shops. They are actually golden when ripe.
