Welcome from SW Missouri. If you're looking for places to wear it and don't mind a wee bit of a drive, St Andrews Society has a Kirkin Nov 5 and our Burns Supper Jan 14. Information is here:

Hey, thanks man. That's cool. I'll definately look up these events. Springfield is only like 4 hours from here and I know folks we could stay with there. I was afraid it might be spring before there was a gathering somewhere to attend.

Talking Re: Howdy from Arkansas, y'all

[COLOR="Indigo"]Well, last night I darned my kilt and ventured out and, even though I had been warned, was quite taken with how people reacted and "interacted" with me.

My first stop was to buy beer and one lady that worked in the store locked on right away and when I went to check out she opened right up with all sorts of endearing stories about how she had lived south of Edinburg when she was a little girl and on and on about men and their kilts there and here. I was blessed to chat with her, and to think simply stepping into a kilt lent me instant credibility with this kind lady who openly befriended me on the spot. I sense a new sort of responsibility now to live up to this new trustworthy image my new duds might imply. I guess I am that guy already, but somehow I feel I've got more than just my own image to uphold, but also the reputation of all the rich heritage I represent now in my fashion choice. Hum.

From the store we headed to our friend's house for a much anticipated Halloween costume party--albeit for me my choice to wear my kilt to this occasion was by no means meant to disrespect my fellow kilt-wearers, but, in the same sense I have worn my much-loved western (cowboy) attire as a costume before, I just like to share things I love with some levity in this way at times. The reception I received was just great and I must say I just had the time of my life with all the new people I met. In a nod to my mischievous side, I was happy to oblige their curiosities and I actually lost count of the number of hands checking for whatever it was they thought they were gonna find--or not, lol). I don't mean to make anyone blush, sorry, but I'm rather juvenile by nature, and five Modelo Especials only encourage such shenanigans. (blush) lol

Well I must be showing my new-ness a bit, but I'm pretty much an open book and love to laugh at (and sometime with) myself, so please pardon me. ;) Truly, I don't look for this experience to be the norm, but the memory of my first kilted adventure is priceless. I look even more forward to all this becoming my new normal and am happy to have a place like this to blab about stuff like this. Many of you must just be wagging your heads at this silly country bumpkin, but that's ok. I have the utmost love and respect for all of you and look forward to what I'll experience and learn from each of you.

    Humbly,
    Earl Brent
