For us who wear a kilt more often I guess chain-wear becomes an issue!
It certainly can be an issue, Graham, and I cannot think how many times I have stressed this on various forums, such as this one, over the years. Every time, I am laughed off the stage for making this point, but one of these days these guys will be laughing on the other sides of their faces. I have seen horrendous damage to expensive kilts caused by the wearer's insistence on using sporran chains instead of straps.
The only occasions I will wear a chain is when wearing my heavy silver and sealskin formal Evening Dress Sporran. A silver chain with Evening Dress is as traditional as a Sgian Dubh!

I would never laugh at any of the suggestions you make. If anyone knows anything about kilt and accessories it would be the likes of you and Robbie who have had years of experience.
So - I intend to use a strap instead of a chain for casual wear. Question - where do I get one from? I've trawled the net and made a few phone calls but can't find one. Will I have to improvise or do you know some secret place where they are sold. Do tell before my kilt ends up shredded!!
