Port Huron Michigan - Scottish shops?
Heading over the line in the next few weeks to try out the strong loonie versus the Ameribuck. Anyone aware of any Scottish shops in or about Port Huron?

First let me say, lucky you, Port Huron is awesome this time of year. But the only Scottish shop I know of in Michigan is on the other side of the state up in Traverse City its called Henderson Imports.

I grew up not too far from there and don't know of any Scottish stores in the area. It has been several years, so I guess I am not the best to comment. Although, there are others here that I see (from their locations) are more local. Hopefully they can chime in...and hopefully there IS a shop If so, I will be certainly checking it out next time I'm home.
Sorry, I'm not too much help.

There is a Scottish Shop in Lake Orion,MI(just north of Pontiac). It is part of a group of shops at Canterbury Village. Highland Fling is the name of the shop and the owner(Gordon) is from Scotland. Bought my first kilt there, a hand sewn 8-yd made in Scotland. There is a huge Christmas Shop, and a pub called the Clansman. They have a small Highland Festival there on July2-3.

Father Bill -
Did you order anything from Highland Fling? Has anyone else? What have your experiences been? I am begining to get worried. At this year's Alma Games, I met a fellow who had an Argyle tweed jacket in a shade of blue I really liked. He said he got it from Highland Fling. So, right after I got home, I called Highland Fling, spoke to Gordon and ordered one. He indicated it would take 6-8 weeks as he had a shop in Scotland that made them for him. This was the first week of June. At the middle of August, having heard nothing, I called Gordon. He said he could not contact the shop and thought they might be on Holiday. I waited until early September. and called Gordon again. He said the jacket was in the mail. I waited three more weeks and heard nothing so I called Gordon again and he said he would inquire. A few days later, Gordon left a message on my cell phone telling me my jacket had been inadvertantly shipped to Australia and that it would be faster for the shop to make nother one and ship it directly to me. His message said I did not neet to bother calling him back. Well, that was a month ago. I've heard nothhing. He has a $200 deposit. Meanwhile I missed two games this Fall where I had planned on wearing it - at the Stone Mountain games, I had dinner with my Clan Chief... I sure would have liked to have had the jacket. Has anyone else dealt with Highland Fling? I am tempted to ask for my deposit back. Any thoughts?

Re: Port Huron Michigan - Scottish shops?
Hey there,
My wife and I went to The Highland Fling a couple days ago. All in all it's a very small shop and we were disappointed with "off the shelf" items. They did not have a lot of stuff. The man at the counter (I assume the owner) was kind of hot and cold in the help department. I ended up buying a pair of hose from there but but my wife and I couldn't help but feel like we were annoying him more than anything. Again, this was my first and only visit there so I have limited experience but my wife and I were disappointed in the end.

Wow. Haven't been there, nor ordered. Glad I didn't! For longer term orders I have a couple of sources closer to home where I have a lot of confidence and in a pinch could go in and place a curse on them if they don't deliver.
