Even a general location can still be quite useful without giving away one's anonymity, e.g. Western Canada or The Scottish Highlands.
I've seen some members crop or blur out their faces, which at least still allows us to see their kilt!

Re: New Member Photos?
Sorry, I think each member should decide for themselves whether they want to post photos or not. Below is the Mission Statement for XMarks I for one am glad there is nothing in there about a requirement to post photos. Some members are simply not comfortable posting their photos online but still have every right to be a part of this community.
Mission Statement
This site is a place where our members can enjoy the company of all other fellow kilt wearers. We wish to provide a place where those who choose to wear the kilt can find friendship, information, guidance, advice, and share their kilt experiences with others.
This is a Kilt Forum. Our members come here to learn about, discuss and share a love for the kilt. This is not a Scottish specific forum nor is it a highland wear specific forum just as it is not a modern wear specific forum. We keep our focus on the kilt. It is what brings us here and what makes this forum unique in the world. .
As we all wish to have access to the kilts and accessories offered by various manufacturers and retailers we accept a select few who are trusted and known to provide quality, value and service, to present their products to our members

Re: New Member Photos?
How about if we could just click on the avatar and see it something larger than a postage stamp?

Jeez Louise - my OP wasn't a suggestion to require a pic - only a suggestion to ENCOURAGE those who were comfortable with it to post a pic with their intro as part of our newcomer guidelines.

Re: New Member Photos?
I don't know. I look a lot like Bamburgh castle, especially in profile. Besides, Chas has already given me an excuse. I look pretty ugly in a kilt, especially in profile.
All seriousness aside, Riverkilt is right. We should encourage, but not require, folks (including newbies) to post more pictures.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Re: New Member Photos?
Photos are always fun, but sometimes a sense of security is just as important. Our photos are available to anybody, anywhere, on the internet. To each his own, but what do I know, I'm just made of copper and gold!

Well, I used the method of self selection.
