Bottle Opener from the Arts & Crafts Store

My wife went to our local Arts & Crafts store yesterday and brought home an interesting item. One I thought of several immediate projects. She tells me it is made for beading and is supposed to be decorated with several beads. I thought that it could be used with wood, bone, metal or even some forms of clay also.

Her initial idea was beads that sort of mimic the set of a tartan. She has done similar patterns with earrings and they worked out well. Although I think that something this size with beads is likely to cross the line as far as bling goes.

Here are the pictures I took this morning of this item.

In the first one it is still in the package and thus disassembled. In the second one it is out of the packed and screwed together. It should of course have something covering the central shaft prior to this step but I did this to give you an idea of size and what it looks like.

My only problem is that I wonder if the small threads on the screw will be able to hold up to the pressure of repeated uses. I have told my wife that this means much research is needed in the bottle opening department before we figure out what to do with it.

Once you have it together, would something like JB Weld work to reinforce/secure those threads? Looks like a perfect sgian brew kit. May I enquire the approximate cost of this and the name of the shop? Thanks so much for the tip!

Re: Bottle Opener from the Arts & Crafts Store

It came from Michael's Arts & Crafts and cost about $7 I think.

I am thinking that lock tight will keep the threads from loosening up but I am thinking more about the pressure on them as the opener pulls against the bottle cap. I have never dealt with this sort of thing before but wonder if it wouldn't cause it to strip out eventually.
