Over here the 100th anniversary of the birth of someone who had already passed away would be called a Centenary not a birthday.

The Queen only sends telegrams to commemorate the event to living persons.

Yes, McClef, you're absolutely right. It is called a centenary, but here we wish them happy birthday in spirit.

The Pope also sends telegrams to those who reach 100 years. My maternal grandfather received one.

This horse crazy old cowgirl spent alot of time with Roy and Dale. Between them, John Wayne and all the other Westerns at the time, my moral character had a good foundation. Something I see lacking in role models today for kids....they just want to be "Hot"
Yes, Bullet is stuffed too and I believe both he and Trigger are still at the Apple valley museum where the RR ranch is.

Awww Branson, only a about 3-4 hours aways from my hometown of St. Louis - actually quite a bit closer to cajunscot's neck of the woods in southwestern Missouri. Haven't been there since I was a kid.

Yep, good ole' Roy. Saw Trigger at Roy's museum/shrine in Victorville California which closed in 2007. He, (Roy, not Trigger) was one of the great "signing cowboys." Can you imagine Clint Eastwood breaking into song? Also among those old cowboy heros was Hopalong Cassidy, played by William Boyd -- a good Scot surname if ever there was one (yea, I have some Boyd ancestors). I don't ever remember seeing him wear a kilt though. I'm sure it would have been black if he did.

I had the distinct pleasure of shaking hands with Roy Rodgers at a Rodeo in Madison Square Garden (The old one) back in the 1950s. I think I was about 8 or 9 at the time.
