    There's an odd area near the bottom right that looks like a Red stripe disappears for a while on the vertical and doesn't quite match up on the horizontal.

    Now we're getting there. Now consider there quality of the cloth, colours and fact that there's a reflection. A suit jacket or some sort of blazer?

    So, not breeches but a very good first go. This is a jacket at the West Highland Museum, Fort William and is said to have been worn at Culloden. The quality of the cloth, colours etc are consistant with the period. Unfortunatelty the museum seem to know nothing of it's origins but as it houses the Carmicheal Collection I suspect that it was collected by him.
