Tartan of the month - November: What do yo see?

There's an odd area near the bottom right that looks like a Red stripe disappears for a while on the vertical and doesn't quite match up on the horizontal.

Ok, I'll bite. The panels seem rather small - is it perhaps a waistcoat?

Now we're getting there. Now consider there quality of the cloth, colours and fact that there's a reflection. A suit jacket or some sort of blazer?

My first go at this but are we looking at some tartan remnant, protected under glass as its a historical garment of some kind possibly retrieved from a battle site such as Culloden or Killiecrankie? My guess would be some sort of breeches?

So, not breeches but a very good first go. This is a jacket at the West Highland Museum, Fort William and is said to have been worn at Culloden. The quality of the cloth, colours etc are consistant with the period. Unfortunatelty the museum seem to know nothing of it's origins but as it houses the Carmicheal Collection I suspect that it was collected by him.
