Custom Sgian
Earlier this year I worked a trade with Jim (AKA Drac) for a custom sgian dubh. I finally found the pics and wanted to share them with you. Jim was excellent to deal with, very concerned about my happiness with the trade and his skills are ... well see for yourself. 'Impressive' is the word which comes to mind, but it doesn't really suit how pleased I am with this sgian. It is bog oak and Damascus steel.
That beautiful leaf and vine file work goes all the way around the tang.
Jim was uncertain about how a wooden sheath would come out, but it looks and fits perfectly!

Re: Custom Sgian
Gorgeous, simply gorgeous. Understated yet elegant.
"My beloved America, thank you for your children. If your children want to become soldiers I will train them. When they are hungry I will feed them. When they are thirsty I will give them water. When they fight for freedom I will lead them. When they are unsteady on the battlefield I will motivate them. If they die on the battlefield I will bury them. So help me God."

Just when I had myself convinced I did not need to carry a sgian dubh...
The file work around the tang is just incredible. The understated beauty of the craftsmanship here is truly beautiful.
James, I am not a craftsman and have nothing to trade. Would you consider taking my middle son instead (he's hoping to make 16 in January)?
Just out of curiosity, how long does it take to make a quality knife like that?

Jim can answer that better than I can. I hope he'll weigh in soon.

Beautiful and elegant! I love the leaf and vine work. I don't know anything about knives or knife making, but this is just beautiful. I would love a kitchen knife like this! Just one perfectly made and elegantly crafted kitchen knife. A lady can dream, can't she?

Something I forgot to mention is that it is fully functional, meaning sharp !
