Re: Kilted on Queen Mary 2 Cruise
Highland Dress always looks great and these photos show that to advantage. I always wear a kilt when on a cruise ship. Being on deck in a gale is best not recorded .....

Nice pictures Jimmy and glad you enjoyed your cruise.
Just one thing - I don't see any sgian dubhs being worn - is that a personal choice or Cunard policy? Some cruise companies worry about the liner being hijacked and won't allow them I gather.

I don't bring my sgian dubh abroad and have never had it with me on any cruise. I would assume the Cunard policy would prohibit wearing a sgian dubh but I cannot say for certain. Although I have a fairly expensive sgian dubh I never wear it now because wherever you go wearing it people always want to see it and handle it. Knives of all sorts frighten me and I now feel its better not wearing a sgian dubh especially with the knive culture in Scotland

Re: Kilted on Queen Mary 2 Cruise
please excuse me for my last post, I have stated why I never wear my sgian dubh now, I hope we do not get into a debate about knives and weapons here, I started this thread talking about my holiday on the QM2 and not about the knive culture in Scotland, I'm sorry I mentioned this with all respect to the previous post to myself

I like the all-black look in the first (leaning) picture. It reminds me of a certain secret agent whose badge number ends in 7.

Most cruise lines follow very similar policies to airlines and do not allow knives aboard, including decorative ones. As a general policy, most cruise lines will just confiscate the "weapon" and return it at the completion of the cruise, but some may not return it, and may even turn the passenger over to the local authorities if they believe the passenger might pose a threat to other passengers.
And, unfortunately, there are many (at least in the US) who are insecure enough to feel threatened by anything even resembling a weapon and will report it to the authorities. I have a sgian dubh that is actually a bottle opener. At one function I was informed I could not have a knife. I showed them it was a bottle opener but with no effect - it was perceived to be a knife when in my hose and that was sufficient grounds for it not being permitted. They were nice enough to allow me to put it in my sporran rather than confiscate it.
