    Re: No Pockets - What do I do with my hands?

    I never did like the no hands in pockets thing in the Navy. Being an outdoors guy I have vests with handwarmer pockets. I use them. In weather too warm for a vest or jacket I figure other options such have already been suggested. If you watch the kids these days their hands are always wrapped around their phones.

    I do one of several things. Hook my thimbs on the kilt belt, the sporran belt, or just stick them inside the kilt, like "Al Bundy" does with his trousers. Or, I stand akimbo or with my hands clasped behind my back, or on my sporran.

    Re: No Pockets - What do I do with my hands?

    I am with the crowd and don't ever really put my hands in my pants pockets unless I am retrieving something form one or repositioning my keys so I do not auto-vasectomize myself. Hands at side, crossed in front low or high, or crossed in back. But then again, it is not that often that I am "just standin' around", as I am usually on the move with hands swinging or carrying something else or holding my wife and/or son's hand. One thing I have found is carrying an interesting walking stick always gives you a place to put your hands, and if you lean it against something it also serves well as a hat rack for your bonnet.

    Re: No Pockets - What do I do with my hands?

    I usually either have my hands on my cromach if I am at a Highland games, or some sort of other outdoor gathering, or my left fingers in my waistcoat pocket - just like HRH Prince Charles! Almost any other time, I usually have my right hand holding a pint or a wee dram, which naturally lends itself to not caring where to put my hands whilst in Highland attire. I do whatever feels natural (and appropriate for the occassion!), and never really think about it.

    Re: No Pockets - What do I do with my hands?

    MarcV-Readers;
    A good question; with many answers. I, too, am ex-military and Never stick my hands in my pockets, kilt or nay. As to what to do with your hands, some advice from Experience. 1st watch a video(or whatever they are now called ) of a good, Broadway production, then watch the actors and how they use their hands.( I have several years of theater work to my resume) And, if you are a tad broken down, or more 'kilt fashionable' carry a Cromach(Scots walking stick). It is a great way to keep your hands 'busy',with out the 'silent signals' of 'arms over chest, ect. Plus it is good to 'repel boarders', repel dogs, and move a product off the back of the top shelf of the grocery store!

    I am not sure what I do with my hands except that if I am with my wife I will probably hold her hand or have an arm around her waist or if I have a stick I will be holding it. Pipes too.

    Though I don't recall where, and may not neccessarily agree, I've heard this same anecdote.

    Im curious whats the difference between parade rest and ease?

    In my experiance with the ATC we only have Attention, Ease and Standing Easy. The latter being standing at ease only slightly more relaxed.

    sorry to go off topic.
