As related in a thread on these boards from March of this year, members of the Shining Thistle Pipe Band, based in Helena, Montana (location of Fort William Henry Harrison, where the FSSF first organized and trained) formally debuted the aforesaid new tartan at the FSSF Association's get-together in August in Edmonton, Alberta. A small contingent of pipers from Shining Thistle wore new kilts in the tartan, and were accompanied by members of the Edmonton Police Service Pipe Band at ceremonies honoring surviving members of the Force. Edmonton PSPB lists at least one veteran from the FSSF as a member and Pipe Major in the 1960's. Force members and FSSF Association members also approved a re-designation of the tartan as the "First Special Service Force MEMORIAL Tartan" (caps added for emphasis of the added word) in order to more accurately designate how the new tartan was conceived and produced. At the recent Helena-area VFW Veteran's Day Parade, all participating band members on that day wore FSSF Memorial Tartan kilts and either piper's or drummer's plaids in the Tartan.
