Re: tie with a prince charlie?
Just to be awkward I don't dislike the look of a Ruche tie with a PC and have worn one on occasions.
But I still think a Bow looks better!

My point exactly, you can see where my caution comes from. I may say hang it and go white shirt black bow tie and be done with it.
another option for me is my RAF Tartan (we were in the air force together), bluegrey hose and so on.

Re: tie with a prince charlie?
A PC when worn with a 4 in hand looks better with a 5 button waistcoat. But not traditionally correct. Of course I got run off from the traditional forum so just ignore me... like this: http://buyakilt.com/silver-prince-charlie-kilt-outfit

Re: tie with a prince charlie?
Not a fan of a tie with the PC....however I believe there are different types of
tuxedo shirt collars Wingtip - Lay Down - Mandarin... I may not have the proper names of the collars...
Maybe the lay down collar might look a little better with the tie....."enuff" said on my part....................

What if the tie is worn without the waistcoat?

Again, I think it is a matter of proportion. The cut of the lapels on a PC draws your eye to the lower part of the torso. Without a waistcoat, a long tie is accentuated, and with a bow tie and no waistcoat, the shirt is accentuated. The PC really looks better with a waistcoat whether it is the traditional low cut or a higher cut waistcoat.
