    BLACK plain day sporran

Last year I purchased a brown leather day sporran from What Price Glory. I really like the simple design and the lack of tassels. I've love to find one in black. Anyone know where I can pick one up? I'd love to have it for the holidays.

I've not seen that particular sporran before so I've no idea who made it. I'm guessing it is by a company in the US or Canada so Rocky may recognise it and be able to help

You should be able to get something similar in black as the basic style is common enough but usually in a fairly stiff leather, The one you linked to appears to be a soft leather

Morrisons do something similar http://www.morrison-sporrans.co.uk/s...er-sporrans/L6 and will do specials for you if you don't want the badge

Get this one and you will never want for another. About $100 delivered.

    Re: BLACK plain day sporran

I have bought from Jerry Lee of WPG for years through WW2 reenacting and the majority of his goods come from shops in Pakistan. Most are very good quality for the price but it doesnt allow for any special orders. The construction is very basic so if you knew someone who could pattern and sew it up it wouldn't be a very complicated project. Another option might be to disassemble one, deglaze, and redye it before sewing it back together. Both options might be more than you are prepared to get into.

I can say have one of the plain brown ones and have been very happy with it. The front and back are stiffer leather with a soft, flexible gusset on the sides. The color is actually a darker brown on mine than the website shows so in dim light you could almost mistake it for black. Only complaint at all with it is the belt isnt great and at a 40/42 modern trouser size I am pushing the limits of it.

One of the other makers already mentioned will probably be your easiest and fastest option.

Did you have something like this in mind?

    Re: BLACK plain day sporran

I'll second the recommendations for McRostie and Artificer sporrans, but judging from the price point of the WPG sporran you referenced in your OP, perhaps something more along the lines of this:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/KILT-SPORRAN...item20be6ace1b

I purchased a sporran in black that's identical to your WPG sporran from this ebay store some time ago: http://stores.ebay.com/Army-Outfitte...h&_sid=8342665

I notice that he doesn't have any in black listed at the moment, but you might drop him a line and see if he can put his hands on one for you.

Hope you'll find what you're after!

My plain black leather sporran used to have tassels on it until I cut them off... I grew tired of sounding like a trotting horse when the tassels drummed against that rather stiff front of the sporran as I walked

    Re: BLACK plain day sporran

Yes, the McRostie and Artificer recommendations are good recommendations for superb quality day sporrans, but certainly not in the same range as the one you bought from WPG. Of course, if you have the money, that is the way to go. They are the top of sporrans but in a totally different price and quality range to WPG. For example, the McRostie one is quoted at £93 ($147) today but you get what you pay for. To get one of equal quality and price of your brown one, ebay is probably your best bet.

My favourite day sporran is the Nightstalker Cargo sporran from Stillwater Kilts in black leather. I haven't worn another since I got it. An excellent piece of kit and, with it's unique pocket system, it's very practical. Although I'm not sure if it's available at the moment. Take a look at their website.

    Re: BLACK plain day sporran

Thanks all. I went ahead and ordered the ebay sporran. I certainly don't mind paying for quality craftsmanship, but I need to be able to rationalize the cost when I think about how often I'll use the sporran.
    Cheers!
