Tartan???

I'm probably too much of a mongrel Graham to worry too much. One day I'll have to get round to a family tree, if only because mines so confusing.
Go for it Al you know you want to, I still think you'll look a treat in that tartan, it's just not for me. As someone said each to his own.
Eventually I think I will have a tartan (keep me Grandma sweet) and I have been softened towards them by this board, but in general prefer the plain ones. It's the Irish in me.
Be careful out there Phil, make sure that you don't get missed out of the rounds because no one can see you. (Camo kilt! get it ). OK it was a poor attempt

No problem with not liking the tartans at all!!!

Heck, there's a TON of guys out there that feel the same way, but don't want to stir the pot and admit it.

THAT'S why we don't just have the tartan kilts. That Victory line is for those guys that want a "construction" look. I couldn't imagine the "carpenter's" kilt in a tartan!

You would be amazed how many ladies are doing the Victory Kilts too!!! They are tired of that Catholic Schoolgirl look (eventhough it works for my taste)

I'm more inclined to support Scotland than England in any case. Tyneside has always had a greater affinity with Edinburgh than London. Most southerners think Tyneside is in Scotland anyway.

We were always looked upon with disdain by southerners. Still are to some extent.

Rhino, I do own tartan kilts but most of mine are solids. I sometimes think tartan can be a crutch at times. It's easier to wear a kilt in public if it's tartan.

I like tartans because of the the colours and the fact that there is some meaning associated with the tartans. The fact that tartans represent some association with s familiy, location, organization, or what-have-you has always interested me.

As for solid colour tartans; I see no problem and may even get one myself one day. The biggest advantage I see is that it gives one more lattitude as to shirt/top choice.

that's the whole I dea,comes to my round, noone can find me. I do owe the lads a round of the expensive single stuff tho' as I had to go due to getting a ride home with one of the guys going my way.saved me a ton of $$. on a cab and the round too ;)

Say what aint so, Phil. That I would support England rather than Scotland? Or the fact that southerners don't, as a rule, like and respect northerners.

I met a girl once. Attractive little thing she was. A London girl, she spent an entire week taking the p*** out of my accent. She wouldn't visit those 'common folk' up north! This, I find, is the opinion of many southerners. All pit heads and slag heaps in the north. Yes? NO, thank you very much!!!

A friend of mine from Kent was gobsmacked at how beautiful the countryside is in Northumbria. I said 'Well why shouldn't it be?' She didn't have an answer, just a stereotype image of what the north was like.

I took the same friend out on a trip to Newcastle. We went on the Metro - an inter city rail system, I suppose a bit like the London Underground or New York subway. She was so taken aback that total strangers on the train talked to her. It doesn't happen on the tube!!

London and its citizens are so insular. They see nothing outside their big urban jungle. Nothing else matters to them.

I was in Edinburgh with Hamish last year. A Scots lad came up to me in a bar, recognised my accent. 'I love the Geordies', he said 'Too good to be English, though not quite good enough to be Scottish'. He laughed and I laughed with him.
