Saturday night at the movies

I finally got to see Passion, Mel's new film. I am very very impressed, but that has been discussed already, what I wanted to share is that it was the first time at the movies in a kilt.

I got a few looks, no comments and I felt comfortable sitting for over 2 hours.
I nearly changed my mind, I actually put a pair of shorts on and then thought - this is not me, this is not comfortable, not is it 'dressy' enough to go out wil my wife and friends in, so a kilt it was.

Well Graham, that's not surprising. I know I'm not comfortable in jeans anymore and I put on a kilt without even thinking about it now. My wife has gotten so used to it she doesn't really notice anymore unless someone else mentions it. If I put on jeans she'd notice fast

is it true that the film was all subtitles?
someone told me it was all in hebrew with English sub-titles

Yes Phil it's true
The film aims at authenticy and achieves that with using the original language. I didn't find it detracted from the film at all.

There were also some nice unbifurcated garments in it too.

Sick isn't it? a film about our Lord being crucified and I'm looking at the "kilts" (not the "S" word)

I'm taking the kids to see Scooby Doo 2 tomorrow. Not quite the 'Passion..' but it's a movie!!

I won't be kilted. Too close to home. Anyway, the cinema is not the cleanest of places. Knowing my luck, I would sit on someones left over choc ice.

Kilted next week though.

I've been doing the 'kilt thing' every weekend from the first weekend in Nov. We've done the movies a couple of times but my biggest complaint is the 'cold knees' I get! The next time I'm going to get my wife to carry an extra sweater. She doesn't look too suspicious with it and this way I can use it to keep things at a normal temp. I don't know if anyone else has that problem or not. Summer in Texas the movies feel good at 60 degrees but the last 2 I've been in have been hard to handle.

I took my kids to a movie a few months ago (I can't remember the specific movie) and we were all kilted. My oldest boy (Dorian, 11) got up to get some popcorn, and an old man next to me muttered "now is that a boy or a girl?" Before I could clench my fist :x the young woman next to him spoke up and said, "It's alright dad, he's probably Scottish, and shows his family pride by wearing a kilt." She then introduced herself and apologized for her dad's behavior, and we had a rather friendly chat together, while her dad kind of tried to disappear into his seat. Later, I overheard her explaining to him how different families have different customs. I wish I could remember what her name was...

Hmm. Confidence, maybe. Or perhaps I simply don't want to. You have to consider, I live and work in the same area. I see, off duty, the 'scroats' I deal with on a day to day basis. Redneck types.

Now I have a certain image and the kilt would dispel that image as such. I can't risk losing credibility and wearing a kilt locally may just do that with SOME.

I understand your position Al, I've said before that we have to use discernment in whatever we wear, kilt of otherwise.

Sometimes a forum like this may apply a wee bit of pressure to persue some 'holy grail' of wearing a kilt only 24/7.
Indeed that would be wonderful to do and some of us have made it to that point, but it's not for everyone.
