I looked into it too from TFCK, will cost over $1000 US.
maybe look into a district tartan, I have a black watch, most people think it's ok for anyone to wear.
also royal suart is considered ok for most people to wear.TFCK made a tartan "thisle dubh" (this'll do) it's made for anyone to wear, made for their hire business.I am lucky enough to live in Ontario Canada.
there's an Ontario tartan,a maple leaf tartan, I just ordered a nova scotia tartan kilt from bearkilts.com
I have never been to nova scotia, but who cares? it's a nice tartan,I have a fiew friends from NS and I think they will be quite pleased to see me in a NS kilt.there are no laws that say you can't wear any tartan you like, most people who claim to be of scotish decent would have a hard time to prove thay have the right to wear said family tartan.( not that they need one) eg, my friend is a macdonald, now witch macdonald tartan would he wear? thare are dozens, many times mr macdonald Snr would belong to a different clan than his son, wasn't a family thing, was a loyalty/association thing, like a gang or a club is today, but a bit more serious.
you don't have to be german to wear denim now do you?
my friend got married in a kilt, he was born in Scotland, but didn't wear his family tartan, they don't have one. their family goes back to ireland you see, his dad also wore a kilt, he wasn't sure what the tartan was, he just liked it. most people just wear what the hire shop has in store if they don't have a kilt, it's ok. please don't feel like you have to justify wearing a kilt, I was born in England, but have worn a kilt to may an occasion here with my scotish friends, they are all quite pleased that I like to wear a kilt, you should have seen all the women make a big fuss over me in my TFCK blackwatch at my friends dads' 70th birthay party in the celtic club, an English man wearing a kilt in the celtic club, lucky I wasn't hanged
but it was a great time had by all.
gee, am I ranting again?
