Kilted on the Harrison River
What an amazing failure we ad of it yesterday. First, as I checked the weather forecast when I woke. It called for 10ºC (50ºF), rain and a 25kph (15mph) headwind. we decided to get together anyhow. As we gathered we discovered that the canoe rental didn't open for two more hours after we were told it would. Rather than be discouraged we fast talked our way into the shop and got an early rental. Once we were at the river we discovered the weather was actually 6ºC (43ºF) and the headwind was over 40kph (25mph). Regardless of the fact that we were also an hour behind schedule, we launched anyhow and had a fun time of it paddling through the whitecaps until about an hour later when it became clear to us that we would not make our exit point before nightfall. We had to turn back or would be in a dangerous situation. I'm proud of us all for each of those decisions, all in the right direction. Here are the pics:
Here we are messing around in the wind. You can see the effect on my 16oz., 8yd MacDonald of the Isles Modern kilt.

A quick dock stop to take stock of our situation and decide to play safe.

On the way back we got caught in a hail storm. It was so much fun all the way I had to laugh.

Re: Kilted on the Harrison River
Better you than me. When I was a teen I rafted the French Broad river with a few inches of snow on the ground. In a wetsuit and rainslicks, I still froze my tail off. I know canoeing typically is less "wet" than rafting with a bunch of kids (I did fall over, btw), but still...
Have fun and throw far. In that order, too. - o1d_dude

The first photo is a gem! It brought a huge smile to my face. Out of adversity comes some great photography!
