Tartan Day Stories - Post 'em up

Wore my Kilt to the office today, Tartan Day. Got the usual good natured ribbing, plus semi-serious threats to turn me into Security for "that damm knife in your sock"

I told them I spared them the real threat. I was down at the Scottish Merchant in Alexandria VA last week, and Doris was selling cans of Haggis. I briefly considered buying a can so I could put out a Haggis Platter in the office today in honor of Tartan Day. Next year for sure.

Stopped by the grocery store after work. No babe kilt checks! Bummer. I guess they were all rushing home for dinner. Didn't get a rise out of anybody. Progress, I guess.

Went and voted today wearing my kilt. A few comments on how nice it looks but mostly no more than a few glances.Did some shopping and was asked a few questions, one was "Do you play bagpipes?" My reply was "A gentleman is one who can play the pipes......but doesn't" Got a few chuckles. Went for a walk after supper and got surrounded by a bunch of young teens, mostly girls. Lots of questions and comments like "Cool!" One woman whistled at me and said "Nice butt". The highlight of my stroll

put on my klit this mornin' and went to work, most people pretended not to notice,had a couple of nice comments,got some ribbing from an old friend,all was kool.only my second day @ work in a kilt, but definitely not the last,it is just so comfortable, made me feel great all day.

I went to the Madra Rua pub and hung out with the Scottish Society of Charleston. They are a bunch of old farts so next year I will be looking for a more hip place to go! Just kidding (sorta). I had a few pints of Boddingtons and then came home! I thought about wearing my new Victory Kilt but then I figured that defeated the purpose of Tartan Day, so I wore my Hannay Tartan. It is really weird when you get funny looks for wearing a kilt in an Irish pub on Tartan Day!

was it cloudy? they can't serve it up here in Canada properly. I'm used to the stuff in Manchester(not cloudy).
what's a victory kilt BTW?

I work in a Library so I did a small Tartan Day display and I was looking forward to wearing the kilt and getting out and around. I wore my Dress Campbell new USAKilt and was all set, best laid plans...you know the story. There was a situation that came up which required me to stay in the office working on a project. At one point the "big" boss came down for a briefing and all she said was "So you did wear it." Boy was I bummed out!
I guess it's getting normal for me to wear a kilt. I only wear a kilt on special occassions so the newness has probably worn off. I ended the day by showing up at the dentist office (lost a cap) in the kilt. Got some looks but I guess they were trying to be polite and not ask. Kind of a let down, couldn't even enjoy 'the national drink of Scotland'...

Well, plan to celebrate this weekend to make up for it.

But, the worst day in a kilt is better than the best day in pants...to paraphrase.

The Boddingtons was well poured and not even a hint of cloudyness.

In spite of kilts previously being banned at work I made a point of putting Tartan day on the calendar. When I managed to get away with a Utilikilt on St. Patricks I figured I could get away with it here too. (I packed jeans just in case) No problems! The GM just took one look and said "Oh, thats right, it's Tartan Day". Didn't even get much response from my previous detractors. At one point there was a couple with some small kids in the showroom. The kids were somewhat confused about "why is that man wearing a dress" and I overheard the GM explaining that I was observing the holiday. He took it so much for granted that he didn't even explain what holiday it was! The kids parents looked at each other and just shrugged, I guess they didn't want to confess ignorance of the holiday. I survived two holidays wearing previously banned clothes, I feel some small bit of solidarity with the Scots of old! Now I just need to start figuring out some more holidays to justify wearing the kilt some more.
