    Hawick Christmas Parade, 2011.

The parade was led and ended by a pipe band.
The leading band was Scottish Borders Pipe Band in their snowman costumes. Unfortunately I was unable to get any decent photos of them on the march but here are two shots of a few of the drummers waiting around while Santa Claus lights the Christmas Tree.

Close inspection of this photo will show that the kilt pleats are held in place with basting stitches.

Bringing up the rear of the parade were Hawick Scout Fellowship Pipe Band in their Santa costumes. Many of the pipes and drums had coloured lights and/or tinsel attached

    That's all folks!

What a grim nasty cold wet night for a parade...everyone seems to be enduring...Aye Scots...

    What fun Alex!

So what was the appropriate kilt to wear to a Christmas Parade?

    Cheers

Pipes and Drums and Santa Suits - I think we've seen it all now! I never would have thought that a band would have done that.

    Thanks, Alex.

I'm about to head out in a couple of hours to pipe with members of the Louisville Pipe Band along one of our major thoroughfares. We've never gone to that extreme, but we do change our band uniform to suit the conditions (personal health and comfort first), and some of us wear 'Santa' hats (I put a clan crest badge on mine) and/or add lights (battery-powered) or tinsel garlands to our pipes.

The event/occasion is 'Bardstown Road A-Glow'. The Bardstown Road Business Association (or some such - I'm not involved in that end) hires the pipe band to perform at various locations along the business corridor here in town - for the local folks that's from Baxter Ave. to Douglass Blvd.

Basically, we walk along the sidewalks, stop here & there (up to us), play a couple of tunes/sets and move on. We may even pop in to a couple of places to warm up and/or sit for a couple of minutes.

It would have to be the Claus of the North Pole tartan, STA register 7869, which was designed and registered, I believe by xmarks member SantaKona.

Looks a bit rainy, but it appears that everyone is having fun, anyway.
