Re: The coming shortage on Scotch Whisky

I was having a pretty good day, and now this.

Guess I'll just take my meds and turn in.

Well, you all probably have to switch over to the Norwegian "water of life" Aquavit or Akevitt as we say in Norway. It is produced on potatoes, flavoured with caraway and matured on sherry oak casks. The best thing with the Akevitt is that the Asian market doesn't know of it's existence.

Re: The coming shortage on Scotch Whisky

I'll just take the cue from the historical period when the Volstead Act ruled the land and look toward our Neighbors To The North for some of those Canadian spirits that made the Kennedys' fortune.

While classic single malt is a product of Scotland, one would think that other distilleries in other parts of the world would be producing something in the same style. Don't I remember seeing a reference a while back on the forum to a single malt style whisky made in Canada?

Speaking for the citizens of Illinois, maybe it's the way to go in this tortured economy...one of the suburbs of Chicago IS Highland Park and who could resist a bottle of Glen Berwyn, Glen Kenosha or Glen Posen?

Thinking on it, don't Turpin and McFarkus have some interest in a farm out in Western Illinois? C'mon guys, I know where we can find some old barrels...

    Best

Re: The coming shortage on Scotch Whisky

As I have been reconstructing my finances as of late, my tipple of choice has been Irish whiskeys, as they are quite easily half (in most cases, a quarter) of the cost of malt whisky.

I miss my Scotch whisky, but Jameson's is great by itself; however you won't feel like you pissed on an original Rembrandt if you add a little lime juice and soda to it.

You are correct. Shelter Point Distillery on Vancouver Island. 2014 will be the premier release of it's first single malt.

I'm curious if there are any others in Canada.

Re: The coming shortage on Scotch Whisky

Nothing like a little cheerful news to improve one's already wonderous day (sarcasm noted to prevent confusion). I just finished the last of a bottle of bourbon last night and looks like it's little brother is spilled somewhere in KY. Going to have to make a revision of my Christmas list so that I can make sure to keep myself stocked. Good news is that by coming up at this time of year means that several liquor companies put mail in rebates in my local paper.

I believe the first one was out in Nova Scotia........ I think it's called Glen Breton or some such.

PBR has been my favorite "light" beer ever since Gran Torino. I fill an ice chest, sit on my front porch, and drink it with an M1 Garand in my lap. Unfortunately, there aren't any Hmong in my neighborhood.

Furthermore, some of them taste better than some single-malts. My favorite Irish whiskey these days is Paddy, but I like Tullamore Dew in Irish coffee.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Wow! Reading all this makes me glad I drink Rum. No shortage here, I have enough to last me until 2030. ( It seems to be the fallback present for me come Xmas)
