    Re: R'lyeh Sett Jonesin' Thread...

    Double post alert.

...I have a special, super-secret project in the works, relevant to this here kilt. Details to come, upon completion of kilt and project.

Does anyone else have something new in the works to report, that's helping them get through the waiting period?

I'm pretty sure I ordered 3DW yards of tartan, which means 6SW... Ergo, I have the option of choosing either four or five yard Kingussie. Originally I was thinking five -- that has not changed... But I have not determined which stripe I would like to pleat to... I may just leave that up to Matt and say "surprise me," not sure yet. In some situations it may be best to defer to the voice with the most experience and do what his eye says looks best.

EDIT: So just to confirm, I started browsing through the original ordering thread, and came across a most disturbing realization. It seems that my original order was for 2 yards... Then, somehow inexplicably, this was changed to 3 yards... And I don't remember making said change... Then, in yet another post in the thread, coming from my own fingertips, I CONFIRMED an order of three yards... Had the insanity already started taking hold of me back then, so many months ago? I'm afraid it may be so... It may be the call of Cthulhu from the depths of R'lyeh that spoke to my subconscious, and subliminally I heeded the voice.... WAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

I did not get in on this run of tartan, however this thread and the others have prompted me to start reading The Call of Cthulhu. As such I was surfing the internet and found this pin, I thought some of you might be interested in it.

Aye, that was my own thought for this one.

I'm one of those guys who "does not wear a kilt pin".

Looking at this pin, though, for this kilt I may just change my mind.

Woah guys. That octo is a standard "Made in China" gew-gaw that you can find by the handful on etsy. Usually for a LOT less than $40.

Sounds good, sir... save, perhaps, the rather unsettling realization that your subconscious mind may be partially under the control of an ancient, malevolent, alien force. But hey- At least now you know.

At any rate, I like the look of a five yard kingussie, a lot. The extra wide box plaet that it produces adds some visual interest, and makes for a unique kilt (Note: The two rumps displaying kingussie pleated kilts on Matt's site are mine and my best friend's... I think they were some of Matt's first). Also, and Matt can confirm this, I think the very large sett size we're dealing with here might necessitate a VERY large central box pleat, in order to make the "5K" work. If this concerns you, you might ask Matt to just check it out and see how wide it'll be, before you commit 100%.

I used to be one of those guys too, and for the most part, still am. That said, I finally got a kilt pin that I REALLY liked (a celtic cross from Tyger Forge), and now I quite enjoy having it as an option. And I'd certainly wear the above pin, too.

Hey, good catch! That page also has this one on it, which I might like even better:

This looks like a decently large blanket/safety type pin. Dull & polish the point a bit and it should make for a pin that will nicely push between the yarn strands without damaging them. My main issue with most kilt pins I've seen is that the "pin" part is such a fine-gauge wire and so sharp that it makes damage to the fabric more likely.
