Re: New York Knights Jacket with Wonderboy Patch

They do have a broad selection in the Rannoch line. I must admit that I really like the cabling on the Lewis.

Musta missed something - didn't see that name....I'm SOLD on the Lewis hose - they are SOOOOO comfy, stay up easy, and hand wash easily - the value is worth the extra cost. At least I stocked up before they cut back or whatever happened.

I agree. I got a pair of one of their brown (dark natural) Lewis hose, and would love to have more of that line of hose. But their colour selection is very limited. That is very disappointing. Since this is allegedly their best selling line of hose, why don't they offer it in a wider range of colours?

Nice jacket Ron! It does tone well with the kilt...hose...environment...

House of Cheviot has always been the maker of the Lewis, Rannock, Skye lines of hose. Some vendors just left off the manufacturers name and listed just the model name instead.

Chris, at Dunadd, can get you any color that is still made by Cheviot (some colors may not be available any longer in some models) and in a reasonable time frame as well. I just ordered two pair from him that he did not have in stock, and I think I received them from Scotland in about 3 weeks. Drop him a line I'm sure he can help you out.

    Cheers,

    Brooke

Thanks....but it wasn't me looking...I already have over two dozen pair of Lewis kilt hose in a rainbow of colors...always thought Lewis was the name of the mill though...wonder why vendors would hide the mill name?

This is a curious market though...very curious...

Yup, Lewis is just the line of hose made by House of Cheviot. And that's where the problem lies: House of Cheviot. They change the availability of colours each year, apparently, and in their latest change they have dropped several colours from the Lewis line (even though these colours seem to still be available in other lines of hose). Why they did that, I do not know. But I think it was a poor decision.

For example, look at their 2011 catalog. There are some colours that I really like in the "Orkney - Trellis stitch" and "Shetland - Cable stitch" lines (page 7). The colours I have my eye on are Bison, Tundra, and Heathland. But if you go to page 9 of the brochure, where the Lewis hose are shown, those colours are not available there.

I really don't understand why they would do this. Why not just make every line of hose available in every available colour of yarn? Do they not understand that people like to have options?

If you follow this reasoning, you could also ask, why don't all tartan weavers hold stock of every tartan that has been registered?

It must be well nigh impossible to please everyone all of the time, and carrying stock is a very expensive thing to d. I'd imagine that if you were willing to place a large order for a previous colourway they would do it for you, but I don't think they are being foolish at all in changing their colour ranges every so often!

Re: New York Knights Jacket with Wonderboy Patch

Well, I guess I wasn't thinking in terms of making tens of thousands of pairs in every colour, but at least making the option available. I don't know how they do their manufacturing, i.e. whether it's in small lots or in bulk.

But you would think that their most popular line of hose (I keep seeing the Lewis line advertised as their most popular) would have more colours available. The standard colours they show for it are pretty hum-drum and typical. But then again, I'm only judging by my personal tastes, and of course they probably do sell these colours very well. I'm just being a malcontent, wishing for more options.
