Not at all. Two inches is not a huge amount and is a simple matter of moving the strap on the inner apron by
two inches and the right hip buckle(s) the same amount. While there will be a slight offset at the back it will not be noticeable, even if pleated to the sett

The strap is easy enough to move but you will need to use a heavy needle to sew through the leather. The buckles are similarly easy but a bit fiddly. The most difficult bit is unpicking the tartan that holds the buckles in place

As you said this is a machine made kilt I am allowing for the fact it may be made by one of the largest machine made kilt makers here in Scotland. If so, they are extremely difficult to move and may require you to access the stitching from inside, below the canvas and lining, which may be glued into place

But still check FIRST with your supplier. They may do this job for you at minimum or no extra cost

I,ve taken y'allz advice and contacted the supplier of my kilt, we'll see what they wll do. I can't thank you all enough for your advice and humor about my silly problem, I get a little wound up about this stuff and forget it's not really all that much of a big deal

As it has been pointed out (wich means my girl is right and I won't get to forget it) I did loose a good amount of weight and do feel a good deal better,and will look healther as well and I'm happy about that.

To add just a little more perspective. Kilts are popular and easily sold so selling yours and buying another is always possible if the adjustment required turns out to be more than two inches

Keep any basting stitches in and don't remove any labels or tags if they're attached. That way you can sell it as a new and unworn item. That should fetch top price and save someone else waiting 6 to 10 weeks for a kilt

I had a similar situation when I ordered my first kilt two inches too big in the waist. A good wide leather belt made it useable. It's better to have lost weight of course.

Not too much of a problem, really. I wanted an Isle of Skye kilt from Marchbrae, in Scotland, which was off the rack, but they no longer had my size, so they accommodated me by having their tailor move the buckles 2". It's fine now.

Sounds like heirloom quality to me. The kilt may not be completely hand-sewn, but the weight is sound, and the yardage is definitely there.

I've lost weight too and one of my kilts is too big on me. I adjusted my belt so that it was shorter. The kilt bunches up a little bit but no one has ever said anything. That is just my Utilikilt though. I have an eight yard wool kilt also but that was a little tight when I got it so that one is okay for now... After reading that it won't look quite right if it is pleated to the sett, which mine is, I'm not looking forward to having it altered when I'm done losing weight.

I've contacted the supplyer and they'll resize it for me at no cost. they reopen after the new year ,so it will be all taken care of soon.The lady was a bit snippy, but at this time of year retail customer service would be a strain on anyones patience I think. On my next kilt If I loose 40 lbs. I'll call the kiltmaker before they send it.But I don't think that will be a problem, I was never a small guy I'm just a little rounder than I use to be.
