    I haven't seen the show...However I expect it is awesome. I am in my early 30's and up till this past week, I had a "real" beard. I wished I hadn't cut it but my wife got a new job and I had to go to a barbeque with her new coworkers. So I had to trim it quite a bit. Here is what it looked like last week
    http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile...9_584668_n.jpg

    It's not totally gone, but it does not have the length that I had last week. Much like wearing a kilt, having a full 19th century styled beard is a definite attention grabber...I hope that "real" beards make a comeback. I look forward to cathing the show!

    Re: Since there was recently a beard post...

    The beard thread is closed now, but I recently found an old picture that I really needed to throw up there and this one references it, so good enough :P

    This was an experiment to see how long I could grow my chops before they drove me nuts and I was extremely scruffy at the time of the picture, but you get the idea. They came off within a few weeks if memory serves me correct, so that was about as long I could deal with. btw, this was either New Year's or my birthday, so please excuse the spacy look in my eyes.

    EDIT: ::dead::

    I've just now seen this thread. Certainly a show I need to be watching.

    But also, my interest is piqued...

    So, would the below count as a "real beard", simply because it completely covers my face (meaning it's not just stubble), even though it's not much over a quarter inch long? Just out of curiosity, you understand.

    Ryan,
    I would argue that Yes, that is a real beard. I think the 5 day-10 day "no shave" was the point of clarification. Here in Athens, Ga there are an awful lot of college aged guys rocking the "no shave" beards. Since this thread originally started I have since grown mine back down to where it was before. (roughly 6 inches or so) I cannot tell you the amount of people that appreciate and admire a full length beard.

    Longhuntr- That is one impressive beard! And thank you for your service...

    Yes, I would classify that as a real beard, albeit a pretty short one. It would certainly not be classified as mere stubble, and you obviously groom it, trim it and shape it, etc. But then again, it has a long way to go before being able to compete with 19th century beards!

    Actually, the length you show there is about the same length I have worn mine for the last 13 years. But a few months ago I decided to grow out a winter beard, just for kicks.

    This is my 'normal' beard length:

    And my winter beard in progress, with shocks of grey showing up:

    I'm thinking I'll let it go until it looks 19th-century-like:

    (by the way, we need a bearded emoticon here!)
