Thanks Matt, that tells me what I was looking for.
I asked because I was thinking about spending 60 -70 bucks for some ready-made diced hose. I like the idea of getting some custom made, but that's a little out of my budget right now.

The Galbraith hose are from Kenneth Short - http://www.kshosiery.co.uk/ - the Lindsay ones I don't know as they were an heirloom and over 61 years old. Here is the receipt for them -
-and they cost the equivalent of £2.50 (including tax) in those days. That they are still going strong after all that time shows they were a good purchase at the time!

Thought I would show a photo of our regimental diced hose as an example. You can see where we had them made and they are very good.

They could be done in any color, as my wife hand knits them.
These are the colors she ordinarily "stocks" but if needs be we could get a different color.

Kenneth Short is my tartan (Argyll) hose maker as well! Wow, they really were a good purchase back then!
Thanks Phil,

Re: Diced hose....
In contrast to what others have written, my diced hose seem to have a good size cuff but the pattern doesn't repeat exactly. I believe they are from J. Higgins, but they were a gift and I'm having trouble recalling...

Re: Diced hose....
CMcG,
It looks like you are actually turning them over too far, which is also why the pattern does not match.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I've heard horror stories about the J. Higgins diced hose, how have you found the quality of them?
