We had some visitors last week from OK and TX, they watched Monarch with me and couldn't understand much of it.

You folks need some education

Nah!! The Beeb just needs to teach proper American english. That, or tell their actors to stop talking with rocks in their mouths! And, no Cockney rhyming slang! As if slang wasn't bad enough to learn, that form turns slang on it's ear!

Firstly, I've yet to hear any Cockney rhyming slang in "Monarch of the Glen" (in fact, any slang at all really!)

Secondly, you should just HEAR some of the accents and language attached to many of the American films and TV programmes that are shown here in the United Kingdom! I've given up on them more than once in spite of my having a pretty acute 'ear' for accents and regional dialects.

Seriously, Everyone has an accent but because
you were raised there or have grown used to it
it has become NORMAL! So we don't think we
have an accent, the other person does. It's
all in what we call NORMAL.

I think we can all appreciate that
being normal is not all its cracked up to be.
The one thing we know from living in the South is
You have to be able to laugh at yourself.
That's why I highly recommend watching
Foxworthy’s Blue Collar Comedy Tour DVD.
It will crack you up.

I saw Blue Collar Tour when they came to town. What a great show! It's not that "Southern" people are the only ones who do funny things, but you laugh because you say to yourself 'I've done that too!' That's why you laugh - at yourself! LOL!!!

I can't tell because of bad reception on tv, but does he usually wear a tartan kilt, or is it a plain black one? I just noticed for the first time tonight that there was a tartan pattern on it (reception a little better tonight.)
