Re: What is our average size?

My kilt waist measurement -- as distinct from p@nts -- is 35", hips 40" and kilt length 23". I'm 5'10" tall, weight about 175 pounds.

Pegged at 30-31" waist/38" seat for a couple years now. At 5' 8" 170 lbs, I don't feel substantial, but my stupid BMI tells me I've too much substance. Very confusing.

Good thing for the broad range on choice 2. I've gained a bit.

That's why I go off of Body Fat Percentage. Much better indication.

Re: What is our average size?

Supposedly, the average American Man wears a 40 or a 40 Long. It looks to me like the average British Man, especially the average British Man of the mid 20th century wears or wore a 38 and was probably closer to 5'8" than 5'10". Look at your WWII vintage uniform items.

I ought to be wearing a 40R jacket, but my middle has expanded to put me in the upper range of the middle wist option. A jacket that needs to button had better be a 42 these days if I want to wear it. I have some generous 40s and some that have been magically expanded by the tailor, but I won't buy one now unless it has some special appeal.

Maybe I will lose some weight in the coming year. Maybe not.

Re: What is our average size?

I just voted for 43+ although I have been losing weight and my waistline keeps getting smaller. All of my p@nts are too big for me now, as well as one of my kilts. I'm 6' and 241lbs. I haven't been to the gym in a couple of months, but my max on leg press was 1035lbs. Just so that all of you skinny guys don't think that I'm all stuffing.

Re: What is our average size?

I asked Elsie Scott Stuehmeyer (the art of kiltmaking book) what her opinion of the average size of a man's kilt was.
She said 40" waist 44" hips.
